The Haryana government has postponed the completion deadline for the Karnal and Faridabad Smart City projects to 31 March 2027. This decision was revealed by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi during a meeting of the State-Level High-Powered Steering Committee, in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The extension is intended to facilitate the completion of outstanding infrastructure and the smooth transfer of assets to the appropriate departments for long-term maintenance. At present, Faridabad has successfully completed 32 out of 46 sanctioned projects, amounting to Rs 916.83 crore. In Karnal, 86 out of 122 projects, with a total value of Rs 930 crore, have been completed.
Both cities have effectively utilized grants, each receiving Rs 980 crore, funded equally by the Central and state governments. Considerable progress has been made in the transfer of completed assets; Faridabad has handed over 23 projects, while Karnal has transferred 83. Initiated to improve urban living standards, these missions concentrate on developing robust drainage systems, water supply, smart surveillance, and modern road infrastructure.
Officials are optimistic that this additional time will enable the successful completion of projects that are in advanced stages, thereby directly benefiting residents with enhanced civic services and sustainable urban solutions throughout both districts.
