Display building plans or face action, warns BBMP

At a meeting held by zonal officials with residents on July 1, locals alleged that there has been an increase in illegal construction in Mahadevapura and displaying building plan is not followed.

Owners of under-construction buildings in Mahadevapura zone will be served notices if they fail to display the building plan approved by the BBMP’s town planning section at the site.

Though there is already a rule on displaying approved building plans at construction sites, it is rarely adhered to. At a meeting held by zonal officials with residents on July 1, locals alleged that there has been an increase in illegal construction in Mahadevapura and displaying building plan is not followed. Several citizens also complained about difficulties in getting the plan approved for sites under A-khata, and that they’re uncertain about further proceedings.

Dr Dakshayini K, joint commissioner (Mahadevapura zone), BBMP, said citizens can help the Palike by filing complaints on the Sahaaya app about violations and illegal constructions in their surroundings. They can also inform ward engineers who will take immediate action by visiting the spot.

Gopal Krishna, joint director, town planning, said they have asked all owners in the zone to display their plans at their sites. “Our engineers are monitoring construction sites. The landowner should laminate the building plan approved … and display it on a board on his/her site. We have given them some time to do it. Defaulters will be served notice.”

However, several owners spoke with said they have not displayed building plans and no officials have asked them to do so. An owner of an under-construction PG facility said he didn’t seek plan approval.

Encroachments and building law violations, especially along stormwater drains and buffer zones, were the major reason for heavy flooding seen in the area last year.
