On Wednesday, the enforcement wing of MCG sealed three commercial buildings and six shops in Islampur under zone 4 which were being constructed without permission. A day before this, two residential buildings were sealed in Pragati Vihar of DLF 4 for the same reason.
Assistant engineer of Zone 4, Rajiv Yadav, who visited the site, said the department had served notices in the past which the owners ignored.
On Tuesday, joint commissioner Hariom Atri had sealed two buildings in Pragati Vihar and warned the owners of legal action if further construction is carried out.
Sources said around 500 illegal constructions have been identified by the MCG where action is still pending. Most of them are in residential colonies including New Colony, Krishna Colony, Prem Nagar, Bhim Nagar, Laxman Vihar, Rajendra Park, Laxmi Garden, Rajiv Colony, and other areas of the old city.
A senior MCG official said that at a time when the department is occupied with Covid-19 duties, some violators are carrying out illegal construction to avoid action. With the lockdown, the regular corporation drives to check illegal construction within city limits have come to a grinding halt, he added. To address this, MCG commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh constituted four teams, one for each zone, to keep a check on illegal construction work.
