Metro 10 to have double-decker design: MMRDA

The MMRDA has set the ball rolling for the construction of a nearly 10km-long Metro 10 line that will ensure direct connectivity between Metro 4 and Mira Road.

The MMRDA has set the ball rolling for the construction of a nearly 10km-long Metro 10 line that will ensure direct connectivity between Metro 4 and Mira Road.

This metro will have a double-decker design as it will run above an elevated road planned between Gaimukh and Fountain hotel. The 9.20km line will originate from Gaimukh, where the line 4A culminates, and end at Mira Gaon.

A senior official said, “We have already appointed consortium of Systra-DB Engineering as the consultants and the process is underway to appoint a consultant for obtaining Environmental clearance.” MMRDA hopes to initiate the tendering process this year and work can commence in 2024, if the environmental clearance issue is resolved in a few months. The project is expected to take 36 months to complete.

The Metro 10 project will be 9.2-km-long, with about 4km of it being an elevated one between Gaimukh and Hotel Fountain on National Highway 8. “We are going for a double decker design because the road at Ghodbunder cannot be widened. The metro will be built above the elevated road at a height of at least 20m from the ground level.”

Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has received a few approvals for the elevated road and MMRDA can seek transfer of these for Metro 10 work too. Mumbai Metro 10 will be an extension of the under construction Metro 4 (Wadala – Ghatkopar – Thane – Kasarvadavli) and Metro 4A (Kasarvadavli – Gaimukh).

There will be no need to build a separate depot for Metro line 10 as the depot at Mogharpada for line 4, 4A, 11 (CSMT-Wadala) will cater to this line too, offiicals said.
