The model township initiative aimed at rehabilitating the survivors of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides in Wayanad is set to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday.
In the initial phase, housing will be provided to 178 families who have completely lost their homes due to the disaster. These families will start relocating to the houses built under the model township project located near Kalpetta once the Chief Minister officially hands over the keys.
The buildings, designed as single-storey structures covering 1,000 sq ft, have been constructed with a foundation that permits the future addition of a second floor. Each house includes a master bedroom, two additional rooms, a sit-out area, a living room, a study, a dining hall, a kitchen, and a storage area.
The Revenue Department will establish 20 counters at the inauguration site to distribute title deeds and ownership rights to the beneficiaries. Documents that include the title deed for the house and 7 cents of land, along with connections for electricity and drinking water, will be provided. The ownership rights will be conferred by the Kalpetta municipality.
