The Telangana government has begun the process of selecting beneficiaries for nearly 8,000 Low-Income Group (LIG) flats under the Indiramma Towers housing project in Hyderabad. Lucky draws for allotment are being conducted across 16 Assembly constituencies, with the process scheduled to continue until August 31, 2026.
The draws began on Friday across four constituencies — Nampally, Quthbullapur, Secunderabad and Rajendranagar. Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas participated in two of the programmes and said the initiative was aimed at providing affordable homes to eligible poor families in areas where land values are high.
Beneficiaries selected for the Indiramma Towers flats will receive free registration. They will also be permitted to sell their homes after 10 years, subject to the applicable conditions. In case of an emergency before the completion of the 10-year period, beneficiaries can pledge their registration documents with a bank to obtain a loan.
Each beneficiary will receive an undivided share of land ranging between 17 and 20 square yards. The flats will have an approximate built-up area of 525 sq ft.
600 Beneficiaries to Be Selected Per Constituency
According to the government, 600 beneficiaries will be selected through the lucky draw for 480 flats in each constituency. Following the draw, officials will conduct field-level verification to establish the eligibility of the selected applicants.
If any selected applicant is found to be ineligible during verification, eligible candidates from the remaining 120 applicants will be considered for allotment. The government said the process has been structured to ensure that the benefits reach families who meet the eligibility requirements.
The lucky draws will cover four constituencies each day until August 31. The programme follows the foundation stone ceremony for the Indiramma Towers project held at KPHB Colony in Kukatpally on August 13 by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
One Lakh Houses Planned in First Phase
The Telangana government is targeting the construction of one lakh houses in the first phase within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. Land identification has already been completed in four additional Assembly constituencies, where applications for Indiramma houses will be accepted until September 3.
The proposed Indiramma Towers will be constructed on land identified by the government. Depending on land availability and local requirements, the towers may have up to 10 floors and will include lifts and other required infrastructure.
Minister Ponguleti said beneficiaries would also be given an opportunity to personally monitor the construction of their homes.
Reservations Across Categories
The housing allocation includes reservations for different beneficiary categories. The government has earmarked 14% for Scheduled Castes, 5% for Scheduled Tribes, 16% for Backward Classes and 5% for persons with disabilities.
Another 10% each has been allocated for sanitation workers, fourth-class employees and outsourcing employees. Overall, 50% of the flats are reserved across various categories, while women will receive 30% reservation.
The government said the Indiramma Towers initiative is intended to provide housing opportunities to low-income families within Hyderabad while enabling eligible beneficiaries to secure property ownership in locations where land prices are considerably higher.
