Gopalpur Industrial Park in Odisha’s Ganjam district has attracted projects and investment proposals worth more than ₹65,400 crore across green energy and advanced manufacturing sectors, according to Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Ltd (TSSEZL).
Spread across nearly 2,970 acres, the industrial park is emerging as a location for investments in green hydrogen, renewable energy equipment, speciality chemicals, tyre manufacturing, mineral processing and food processing. The investment pipeline reflects increasing interest in industrial development along Odisha’s coast.
Green Ammonia Project Proposed
The park offers both Special Economic Zone and Domestic Tariff Area facilities. It has been developed with supporting infrastructure including roads, power, water supply, drainage and multi-modal connectivity.
One of the latest proposals at the park is a green ammonia project. The Odisha government, Japan-based IHI Corporation, ACME Group and TSSEZL have signed a memorandum of cooperation for the development of a green ammonia plant with a proposed capacity of 0.4 million tonnes per annum.
The project also includes plans for a jetty-less floating terminal. The proposed development could support the production and movement of green ammonia while adding to Odisha’s growing focus on renewable energy and green fuel projects.
TSSEZL Managing Director Manikanta Naik said the company is progressing with its plans to develop Gopalpur into a globally competitive industrial destination.
₹10,000 Crore Solar Manufacturing Proposal
Another major proposal at Gopalpur Industrial Park involves Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. The company has signed a binding land transfer agreement with TSSEZL for a project involving an investment of ₹10,000 crore.
The proposed facility is planned for the manufacture of solar ingots and wafers. Such a project would add to India’s domestic solar manufacturing capacity and support the production of components used in the solar value chain.
The development of the facility would also expand the range of manufacturing activities at the industrial park, which is attracting investments across renewable energy and advanced manufacturing segments.
Industrial Development in Ganjam
Gopalpur Industrial Park has emerged as a major industrial development location in Ganjam district due to its land availability and infrastructure. The presence of both SEZ and Domestic Tariff Area facilities enables companies to consider different manufacturing and business models.
The park’s infrastructure and connectivity are expected to support a range of industries, from renewable energy manufacturing and green hydrogen to speciality chemicals and mineral processing.
With an investment pipeline of more than ₹65,400 crore, the proposed projects could contribute to manufacturing capacity, industrial activity and employment generation in the region. The pipeline also points to growing interest in Odisha as companies look for locations for large industrial and energy-related investments.
The proposed green ammonia and solar manufacturing projects represent two major components of this investment pipeline. As these proposals move towards implementation, Gopalpur Industrial Park is expected to attract further interest from companies in green energy, manufacturing and other industrial sectors.
