The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved a ₹1,020.50 crore four-lane elevated road project connecting Old Pune Naka and Boramani Naka in Solapur. The project has been classified as an urgent public infrastructure work.
The proposed elevated corridor will extend for 9.660 km along National Highway 65 through Solapur city. It is planned as a four-lane route and will include six ramps, three small bridges and service and access roads at locations where required.
The project is expected to improve road connectivity through the city and support movement towards major destinations in the region, including Tuljapur, Pandharpur, Akkalkot and Gangapur.
The Cabinet approval follows an assessment of traffic requirements and other factors related to the proposed corridor. A major component of the decision relates to the availability and transfer of land required for the project.
A substantial portion of the land needed for construction is already held by different departments of the Maharashtra government. The Cabinet has approved the transfer of this land to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) without charging occupancy value.
The decision is expected to remove an administrative requirement associated with land availability and help advance the implementation of the project. The NHAI will be able to take forward the development of the proposed elevated road after the transfer process is completed.
The elevated corridor is being planned along NH-65, one of the important road routes passing through Solapur. The proposed infrastructure is expected to address traffic movement on the corridor while improving connectivity between different parts of the city.
Solapur serves as a regional centre for industrial, commercial and agricultural activity. The city has a significant textile industry and maintains road links with major towns and pilgrimage centres in Maharashtra and neighbouring regions.
The proposed road project could improve connectivity for passenger and commercial traffic travelling towards destinations such as Tuljapur, Pandharpur, Akkalkot and Gangapur. Better road movement may also support local trade, logistics and the transport of goods.
The inclusion of six ramps will provide access between the elevated corridor and the existing road network at selected locations. The project also includes three small bridges and supporting service and access roads where required.
The classification of the project as an urgent public infrastructure work is expected to facilitate further action on land transfer and other project-related processes.
