Tata Power has commissioned the second element of its Jalpura-Khurja Transmission Project in Uttar Pradesh, strengthening power transmission infrastructure serving Western Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region (NCR).
The project includes a 400kV double-circuit transmission line covering 162 circuit kilometres (CKM) and a 400/220kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation at Jalpura with a transformation capacity of 1,000 MVA.
The project has been executed through TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power. The infrastructure connects two important power nodes and is expected to support the movement of electricity between Khurja, Jalpura and the wider NCR region.
400kV Transmission Corridor Connects Khurja and Jalpura
The transmission corridor extends across 162 CKM and consists of two circuits of approximately 81 km each. The high-voltage line provides a connection between Khurja and Jalpura, supporting power transfer across Western Uttar Pradesh.
Khurja serves as an important electricity transmission node in the region. Its location makes it relevant to power movement towards NCR and Noida, where electricity demand has grown alongside residential, commercial and industrial development.
The new transmission infrastructure is expected to improve the ability to transfer power across the region and provide additional transmission capacity as electricity requirements increase.
Jalpura Substation Adds 1,000 MVA Capacity
A key component of the project is the 400/220kV GIS substation at Jalpura. The facility has a transformation capacity of 1,000 MVA and forms an important part of the transmission link between the two power nodes.
The use of GIS technology allows high-voltage electrical equipment to be housed within a compact substation arrangement. This can be useful in locations where land availability is a consideration and where large-scale transmission infrastructure needs to be integrated into developed areas.
The Jalpura facility, together with the transmission line, forms part of the infrastructure required to move electricity efficiently across the Western Uttar Pradesh and NCR regions.
Support for Regional Power Connectivity
The commissioning comes as electricity demand continues to increase across urban and industrial areas around Noida and the wider NCR. Stronger transmission links can help facilitate the movement of electricity from generation and transmission nodes to areas with growing demand.
The Jalpura-Khurja project also adds transmission infrastructure between two strategic locations in Uttar Pradesh. The 162 CKM corridor provides an additional high-voltage connection, while the Jalpura substation adds 1,000 MVA of transformation capacity.
The project is expected to contribute to the strengthening of power connectivity across Western Uttar Pradesh and NCR. Its infrastructure will support the transfer of electricity between Khurja and Jalpura while providing additional capacity for the region’s future power requirements.
With the commissioning of the second element, Tata Power has advanced the development of the Jalpura-Khurja transmission project, adding a major transmission corridor and substation to the regional power network.
