About the Program

The design and construction of high-rise buildings require a comprehensive understanding of structural behaviour, advanced analysis techniques, and the effects of wind and seismic forces. As buildings increase in height and complexity, structural engineers need to address challenges related to lateral stability, stiffness, strength, serviceability, foundation interaction, and the design of critical structural elements.

The “Engineering High-Rise Buildings – Wind, Seismic Analysis & Structural Elements Design”program is designed to provide participants with a practical introduction to the principles and methodologies involved in the analysis & design of high-rise structures.

The program will cover the fundamental concepts governing the behaviour of tall buildings, including gravity and lateral load systems, wind effects, seismic forces, structural modelling, analysis approaches, and the design of key structural elements. Emphasis will be placed on the comprehension of structural systems and their mechanical behavior under diverse loading conditions, substantiated by empirical examples and engineering case studies. The sessions will integrate conceptual frameworks, engineering principles, and practical design methodologies. This programme is specifically designed for professionals aiming to enhance their expertise in wind and seismic analysis, as well as the structural design of high-rise edifices.

The program aims to:

  • Introduce the fundamental concepts and structural systems used in high-rise buildings.
  • Develop an understanding of gravity and lateral load-resisting systems and their structural behaviour.
  • Explain the effects of wind and seismic forces on tall buildings and the approaches used for their analysis.
  • Familiarize participants with structural modelling, load combinations, stability, stiffness and serviceability considerations.
  • Provide an overview of the design of key structural elements such as slabs, beams, columns, shear walls and foundations.
  • Highlight the importance of P– Δeffects, structural irregularities and overall stability in high-rise structures.
  • Familiarize participants with relevant Indian Standards, design provisions and good engineering practices.
  • Provide practical insights through worked examples, case studies and real-world design considerations.
  • Enable engineers and other professionals to better appreciate the integrated approach required for safe, efficient and economical high-rise building design.
