The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has successfully acquired 838 acres for the Phase II expansion of the Kellamballi-Badanaguppe Industrial Area located in Chamarajanagar district. KIADB had previously announced a total of 1,189 acres for acquisition.
Compensation has been provided to most landowners, while payments to the remaining individuals will be finalized once legal disputes are resolved. Officials have indicated that development has commenced on a portion of the acquired land to establish industrial plots.
With the industrial plots in Phase I being predominantly occupied, the government has intensified its expansion initiatives to draw in more investors to the area. The establishment of the industrial zone was initiated by the then Chamarajanagar district minister, HS Mahadevprasad, with the aim of attracting large-scale industries to the district. “KIADB has finalized the land acquisition process for 838 acres out of the 1,189 acres, and compensation has been distributed to the majority of landowners.
Compensation for the remaining landowners will also be disbursed once their legal disputes are resolved,” stated Nagahanumaiah, the special land acquisition officer at KIADB. He further mentioned that development activities are currently underway to establish industrial infrastructure.
“The expansion of the industrial area not only promotes industrial activities but also creates job opportunities; therefore, the government should expedite the process,” remarked Jayasimha, president of the Chamarajanagar Small Scale Industrialists Association (CHASSIA). “This initiative enhances the local economy and improves the quality of life. The government should pursue additional industrial expansion projects in the border district,” he added.
