The Patna Metro project has received a fresh funding allocation of ₹628.32 crore from the Bihar government under the Centre’s Special Assistance Scheme for Capital Investment for 2026-27. The funds are intended to support ongoing construction activities and maintain progress across the metro project.
The allocation will be routed through Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) and used for key project works. It forms part of the first instalment released by the Union Finance Ministry under its special assistance programme for Bihar.
The additional funding is expected to improve cash flow for construction activities and help reduce the possibility of delays in ongoing works. The development comes as construction continues on the two main corridors planned for the Patna Metro network.
On July 23, the Centre approved projects worth ₹2,925 crore for Bihar and released ₹2,628.32 crore as the first instalment. Of this amount, ₹628.32 crore has been allocated to the Patna Metro project.
The funding structure for Patna Metro involves contributions from both the Centre and the Bihar government. Each contributes 20 per cent of the project cost, while the remaining 60 per cent is financed through external loans, including funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The project comprises two principal corridors. Corridor I, connecting Danapur and Khemnichak, will cover 14 stations and include both elevated and underground sections. The corridor is expected to provide a direct metro connection across several important parts of Patna and improve access to the city’s expanding transport network.
Corridor II will connect Patna Junction with New ISBT and will have 12 stations. The route will serve important locations including Gandhi Maidan, Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and Rajendra Nagar. The corridor is expected to improve connectivity between central Patna and the city’s major transport and institutional areas.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also been assigned responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the priority corridor. Its involvement is expected to support the operational planning and eventual management of metro services once the relevant section becomes ready for passenger operations.
The latest allocation provides additional financial support at a time when construction of Patna Metro’s major infrastructure is progressing. Continued funding will be important for civil works, station construction, underground sections, elevated structures, track-related works and other components required to complete the corridors.
The project is part of Bihar’s efforts to expand urban public transport infrastructure and provide a mass transit option for Patna. With the two corridors covering residential, commercial, institutional and transport hubs, the metro network is expected to improve connectivity within the city and support movement across key urban areas.
The release of ₹628.32 crore therefore provides a financial boost to the ongoing Patna Metro works and supports the project’s construction schedule. Further funding releases and continued coordination between the Centre, Bihar government, PMRCL, DMRC and external financing agencies will remain important for completing the planned infrastructure.
