Is It Time To Replace Your Water Heater?

It’s been a long, chilly day and you can’t wait to enjoy a long, hot shower. You turn on the spigot and wait for that lovely hot water to start pouring out, after all, it always takes a few seconds for it to move through the pipes from your water heater! A minute later all you are getting is some lukewarm water that’s barely hot enough to wash your hands in. It looks like that old water heater has given up the ghost!

Your hot water system plays an important role in your home’s daily activities, from showers and baths, to the laundry, to washing up the dishes. When it begins to fail, lukewarm water is one of the signs, and hopefully you don’t have a leak! It’s probably time for a hot water system replacement, but first have the friendly plumber in Summer Hill come out for a look, if there is a problem they can fix they will handle it for you, and if you must have a replacement water heater they can help you choose the best one for your needs and install it for you!

First let’s go over the telltale signs that you need a new hot water system:

  • Leaks – These aren’t always obvious, look for damp spots on the floor near the water heater, a leak might start slowly but it’s bound to get bigger! If your water heater is standing in a puddle do not touch it, you may get shocked! Call the professional plumbers for help right away!
  • Rust – If rusty water is coming out of your hot water taps you can be sure you need a hot water tank replacement.
  • Inconsistent Temperature – If your water doesn’t consistently run hot any more, it means your hot water system is struggling to function properly. After all, it’s not called a “lukewarm to coolish water system”!
  • System’s Age – The average hot water heater unit lasts around 10 to 15 years. If your system is this age, or older, you might want to proactively consider replacing it before it fails and avoid that nasty lukewarm shower!

When you Invest in a hot water heater replacement you are doing more than just fixing a problem today, you are also future-proofing your home! Plumbing technology advances, and the newer hot water units will offer greater energy efficiency and new features that can help reduce your environmental footprint and utility costs! The following are some of the types of hot water systems to consider:

Traditional Storage Tank -The most common solution, they store a large amount of heated water and are reliable, but are not the most energy-efficient.

Tankless – Hot water is provided on demand without storing it, which saves energy and space.

Heat Pump – These are highly efficient, they use electricity to heat water by taking heat from the air, a very sustainable option.

Solar Powered – Solar panels heat the water, so they are eco-friendly and will greatly reduce your energy bills. Be warned though, they depend on having plenty of sunlight to give you that heat!

We hope this helps all your future showers be nice and hot, enjoy!
