The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation has implemented an innovative approach to streamline the generation of house and water tax bills for residents of Sangam City. Each bill will feature a QR code sticker affixed to the respective properties, akin to the system used for electricity meters. This digital initiative is designed to expedite tax collection. The rollout will commence with commercial buildings and subsequently expand to residential areas, with stickers being applied in a zonal manner.

The QR code will enable tax collectors to facilitate tax payments through door-to-door visits, accommodating both online and offline transactions, while cash payments can be processed at the PMC office. Previously, employees encountered challenges due to residents using online payment as a reason to postpone tax payments, which hindered efficiency and slowed revenue collection.

To address this issue, QR code stickers will be affixed to buildings, starting with commercial properties and progressing to residential zones. This system will enhance payment accessibility and minimize delays. Additionally, the new framework allows property owners to pay house tax, water tax, and sewer tax concurrently, thereby increasing convenience. Three banks have already collaborated with the municipal corporation to support this initiative.

QR codes printed on tax bills will enable homeowners to make payments directly through their smartphones. With over 177,000 building properties identified, the corporation aims to collect house tax from more than 55,000 properties promptly. The QR code will provide details on property tax status and facilitate immediate payment, beginning with commercial zones. ‘We are committed to simplifying and modernizing the tax payment process.

The QR code stickers will improve transparency and promote timely payments from property owners,’ stated PK Dwivedi, chief tax assessment officer of the Municipal Corporation.
