Godhra–Vadodara stretch of Delhi–Mumbai Expressway opens

India has reached a notable achievement in its infrastructure development with the trial opening of the Godhra–Vadodara segment of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, effective from 13 April 2026. This eight-lane section signifies consistent advancement towards the completion of the nation’s longest high-speed corridor, which stretches 1,386 km.

The segment extends from Bhamaiya village near Godhra to Dodka village near Vadodara in Gujarat, designed to enhance speed, safety, and efficiency. Once fully operational, the expressway is anticipated to cut travel time between Delhi and Mumbai to approximately 12 hours, revolutionizing long-distance road transport.

Developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana at an estimated cost of around Rs one lakh crore, the initiative aims to enhance logistics efficiency and promote economic integration. It will connect vital infrastructure nodes, including major airports such as Jewar and ports like JNPT, while also linking with corridors like the Samruddhi Mahamarg.

With allowed speeds of 100–120 km/h on the majority of its sections, the expressway is poised to enhance connectivity across six states, facilitate trade, and stimulate regional economic growth through the expedited movement of goods and passengers throughout the country.
