The state government had already spent Rs 56,000 crore to acquire land for the housing colonies and spared Rs 32,000 crore to create permanent infrastructure in the colonies including roads, electricity, water, parks, children play areas, schools and primary health centers.

“The Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation has achieved the target of completing the construction of five lakh houses under the flagship programme of the state government under the Navaratnaalu Pedalandariki Illu Scheme, the dream child of the chief minister. It is the biggest achievement of the government in the country to complete a large number of houses across the state with all infrastructure facilities like electricity, drinking water, roads and drainage for the poor,” said housing minister Jogi Ramesh.

He said that all the houses were being constructed in the name of women as all the house-sites were granted to women.

AP housing corporation chairman Davuluri Dorababu is YSRCP in-charge of Peddapuram constituency, which is going to host the launching of a mega housing project for the poor in Samalkota.

The state government asked all the ministers, legislators and constituency in-charges to make a grand celebration of house-warming ceremonies in their respective constituencies on Thursday.

“We have realized the dreams of the poor in owning the house. It is really a big occasion to celebrate,” said housing corporation chairman Davuluri Dorababu.

Special chief secretary (housing) Ajay Jain said that they were relentlessly working to motivate the beneficiaries to complete their houses granted by the state government.

He said that chief minister wanted that no poor person is left without a pucca house by 2024.

He explained that they have deputed senior officials to closely monitor the progress of the housing projects in all the 26 districts.

“Special officers have been instructed to visit the layouts regularly and take necessary steps for the completion of houses. They have been asked to resolve the issues of the beneficiaries on the spot during their field visits,” said Jain.

Housing corporation managing director Lakshmi Shah said that the government was providing construction material including cement and steel at subsidized prices while sand was being given free of cost.

He said that the government was also providing electrical fittings and other material at relatively lower prices.

He said that they have spent close to Rs 2,900 crore to create critical infrastructure in the housing colonies.
