10th steel bridge launched for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train initiative has reached a significant milestone with the successful inauguration of its 10th steel bridge in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Measuring 60 meters in length, the bridge was positioned over a Western Railway facility, representing the first steel bridge installation in the Ahmedabad district for this project.

The transverse launching was completed in a mere seven hours, with the bridge constructed at a height of 16.5 meters on temporary trestles and subsequently side-slewed into place using semi-automatic jacks with a capacity of 200 tonnes.

Weighing 485 tonnes and standing 12 meters tall with a width of 11.4 meters, it was manufactured in Wardha, Maharashtra, and transported to Ahmedabad via specialized trailers.

The structure features over 20,360 high-strength bolts, elastomeric bearings, and a protective C5 coating to ensure durability and control vibrations. Throughout the corridor, a total of 28 steel bridges are planned—17 in Gujarat and 11 in Maharashtra—facilitating viaducts, river crossings, and flyovers, which will significantly improve connectivity and decrease travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
