Submit stacking, disposal plan to get building sanction in New Town-NKDA

Officials said that they have been noticing as well as receiving complaints from across New Town that stone chips, sands and other construction materials were stacked up on the road side and footpaths, narrowing down lanes and causing inconvenience for motorists and pedestrians.

All future building developers in New Town will have to submit a construction management plan — as to how they would be stacking construction materials and dispose of demolition waste and debris — to the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) for getting their building plan sanctioned. A notice regarding this has been issued by NKDA on Tuesday.

Officials said that they have been noticing as well as receiving complaints from across New Town that stone chips, sands and other construction materials were stacked up on the road side and footpaths, narrowing down lanes and causing inconvenience for motorists and pedestrians. This is also blocking the drainage lines.

“Sanctioning of a building plan will be issued by NKDA only after thorough scrutiny of the construction management plan which the plot owners or developers will need to submit prior to starting construction work. They will need to specify their plan of managing the construction materials and how waste and slurries will be disposed. Building plan will not be sanctioned if the developer fail to submit any construction management plan,” said an NKDA official.

Also, the authorities have prohibited the use of D G sets for construction purposes and have laid guidelines for setting up temporary power meters for construction sites within New Town.

“We were getting complaints of huge sound coming from these DG sets. It has been decided that DG sets can no longer be used during construction work in the future,” said an official.

NKDA have also issued a notice for developers, mentioning that dumping of construction waste and slurries in nearby drains, parks, playgrounds, footpaths and service roads is strictly prohibited.
