JSW Steel Limited announced on Wednesday that it has initiated the development of its greenfield integrated steel plant located at Paradeep in Odisha, which is designed to have a capacity of 13.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The company indicated that the project will be executed in phases, with a projected investment of approximately ₹65,000 crore, distributed over nearly 2,950 acres along the coastline of Odisha. As per the company, the coastal site provides strategic benefits, such as port connectivity, access to raw materials, and integrated logistics infrastructure for both domestic and export markets.
The ceremony marking the commencement of the project was graced by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with senior officials from the state government and JSW Group leadership, including Sajjan Jindal. The company further stated that this facility is in alignment with the Government of India’s Mission Purvodaya initiative, which seeks to enhance industrial development in eastern India and bolster domestic manufacturing capabilities.
Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of JSW Group, remarked, “The project demonstrates the company’s faith in India’s long-term manufacturing growth and Odisha’s rise as a significant industrial hub.” Jayant Acharya, Joint Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of JSW Steel Limited, noted, “The Paradeep facility will be instrumental in the company’s long-term growth strategy by providing integrated infrastructure and logistics connectivity.”
The company mentioned that the project has been meticulously master-planned to allow for future capacity expansion in accordance with market demand and its long-term steel manufacturing strategy.
