The Chandigarh municipal corporation has finally created IDs of around 5,000 new properties in the city, prepared its record and data by adding them in the property tax segment to incur tax from them on a regular basis annually.
Since, matching of the records of electricity and estate office data with property tax is still going on, this number of 5,000 new properties will increase manifold in the coming days when the exercise is done by the MC.
These newly identified properties include both commercial as well as residential properties in different areas of the city. Since the property tax bills are being prepared as per the area of each property and related construction records, all such details were found during the matching of data from the available records of their respective properties and, thus, the authority is avoiding doing any physical survey of these new properties.
“Since the authority is in process to send property tax bills from first week of April, these newly found 5,000 properties will be kept in the tax segment for the future, as their areas have been calculated as per the laid down norms and terms and condition related to the property tax.
By adding these new properties and more are expected in the future, the authority will get an increase in its annual revenue, sources have revealed.
The civic body authority has received records from water, power and estate office departments to see and match how many property occupiers, who are falling under the property tax ambit, are c Since the records are quite lengthy, besides the MC, Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) has also been engaged in this matching exercise to calculate the number of total new properties and to take tax from them. Till date around 5,000 such properties are identified, and process of matching will take some time to complete.
