Centre Approves 7,597 Crore Highway Project in Telangana

by Constro Facilitator

The Union Cabinet has approved a major highway expansion programme worth ₹7,597.16 crore in Telangana, aimed at improving regional connectivity, reducing traffic congestion, and strengthening logistics infrastructure across key districts of the state. The project involves the four-laning of important stretches of National Highways 63 and 563, covering a total length of 190.76 km.

The approved project has been divided into three packages and includes the Armoor–Jagtial and Jagtial–Mancherial sections of NH-63, which will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). The Jagtial–Karimnagar section of NH-563 will be executed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (Toll) basis.

The highway corridors pass through the districts of Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, and Karimnagar, which have witnessed significant growth in economic and industrial activities in recent years. Increasing traffic volumes, coupled with rapid urbanisation along the existing routes, have led to frequent congestion and travel delays.

Several towns located on the current highway alignment, including Korutla, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Lakshettipet, Gangadhara, and Karimnagar, experience heavy traffic bottlenecks that affect both passenger movement and freight transportation. The proposed upgrades are expected to ease these challenges by enhancing road capacity and improving travel efficiency.

As part of the project, the highways will be widened to four lanes and equipped with bypasses around major urban and built-up areas. These bypasses are expected to divert through traffic away from crowded town centres, reducing congestion and improving road safety for local residents. The upgraded corridors will be designed to support vehicle speeds of up to 100 kmph, significantly reducing travel time between key destinations.

The project is also expected to provide a major boost to regional trade and logistics by facilitating faster movement of goods across northern and eastern Telangana. Improved connectivity will benefit agricultural producers, industries, and commercial establishments by lowering transportation costs and enhancing market access.

In addition to improving mobility, the highway expansion is likely to generate employment opportunities during the construction phase and support long-term economic development in the region. Better road infrastructure is expected to attract investment, encourage industrial growth, and strengthen links between Telangana’s urban centres and rural hinterlands.

The approval reflects the Centre’s continued focus on expanding India’s highway network and developing high-capacity transport corridors to support economic growth. Once completed, the upgraded NH-63 and NH-563 corridors are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity, reducing travel bottlenecks, and supporting the state’s infrastructure development goals.
