MCG has identified 35 property tax defaulters with a total outstanding amount of Rs 3.6 crore and will initiate recovery actions by sending out notices. This decision comes after a recent initiative in which the civic body issued notices to 69 defaulters who collectively owe Rs 18.2 crore in taxes.
“In the past two weeks, we have distributed 69 notices to property tax defaulters who owe us Rs 18.23 crore. On Tuesday, we will send out 35 additional notices to facilitate the recovery of the outstanding property tax dues,” stated zonal taxation officer Pankaj Kumar. For the current financial year (FY), the projected revenue from property tax is estimated at Rs 275 crore, which is lower than the previous FY’s projection of Rs 300 crore.
In the fiscal year 2024-25, MCG reported an income of Rs 232.9 crore, representing 77% of the projected estimate. Property tax serves as a significant source of revenue for MCG, alongside stamp duty, making it one of the highest revenue-generating municipal corporations in Haryana. In the meantime, the Haryana government has extended relief to property owners by offering a 10% discount on taxes for FY 2025-26, contingent upon the full payment of their outstanding property tax by July 31, 2025.
Additionally, it is required for property tax data to be self-certified on the no-dues certificate (NDC) portal. Property owners can take advantage of this discount by making payments through the NDC Haryana official portal or at nearby citizen service centers. Officials have indicated that if property tax is not paid promptly, the government will impose an annual interest rate of 18% on the outstanding amount, and properties belonging to defaulters may be sealed and auctioned.
