The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission(SCRDC) on Thursday convicted an errant builder and slapped a jail term of six months on him for playing fraud on homebuyers through willful default in delivering the promised flats.
The commission bench, comprising president Justice MSK Jaiswal, members Meena Ramanathan and K Ranga Rao, pronounced this order after hearing an execution plea filed by Dr R Renuka, her daughter, and son, who were aggrieved with the loss of money invested by her late husband R Eswari Prasad for buying a flat with Gharonda Builders and Developers.
Though the commission came to a conclusion about the guilt of the builder, Sunil J Sachdev, who cheated several people in a similar manner and was now urging courts to declare him insolvent to get out of his obligation to hand over flats to his customers, the builder showed no signs of inclination to comply with the orders of the commission.
