Residents can pay property tax till July 31-Chandigarh

According to him, residential properties will be able to avail 20% rebate and commercial properties 10% on their taxes up to July 31, after which they will have to pay 25% penalty and 12% interest on the tax amount.

With Punjab governor and Chandigarh administrator V P Singh Badnore clearing the proposal, now the owners of both residential and commercial properties will be able to pay their taxes for the current financial year with rebate till July 31, said an official on Friday.

According to him, residential properties will be able to avail 20% rebate and commercial properties 10% on their taxes up to July 31, after which they will have to pay 25% penalty and 12% interest on the tax amount.

The tax branch of Chandigarh municipal corporation has completed the printing work of all property bills of both categories, and these will be dispatched starting Monday. Since this time commercial properties of the city’s villages have also been brought in the tax ambit, such properties will also be sent tax bills.

Property tax bills will be sent by post and we have tied up with the postal department for the purpose. Every property owner will get bill at their doorstep. Since employees of the tax branch have been coming regularly for the past almost one month, printing of bills has been completed,” the MC official said.
