All industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects—such as reverse osmosis plants, hotels, hospitals, shopping malls, and water parks—are required to secure a no objection certificate (NOC) for the extraction of groundwater. The authorities have emphasized that stringent penalties will be imposed on organizations that do not register or acquire the necessary NOCs for groundwater extraction.
Individuals who violate the regulations may incur fines between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, face imprisonment for a duration of six months to one year, or both, as stipulated in Section 39 of the Act for failing to comply. The GB Nagar district administration has implemented strict measures to oversee groundwater usage, with District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma cautioning commercial and industrial organizations about the necessity of adhering to the Uttar Pradesh Groundwater (Management and Regulation) Act-2019.
A communication from the DM’s office on Friday stated, ‘To ensure compliance, all eligible entities must register through the official groundwater department portal (https://upgwdonline.in) using Nivesh Mitra.
The registration process mandates the submission of technical reports and required affidavits.’ As summer approaches and concerns about a potential water crisis grow, this announcement underscores the urgent need for sustainable groundwater management in both rural and urban regions experiencing water shortages.
