Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to ensure that houses under the Indiramma Housing Scheme are constructed only in residential areas within the Hyderabad Core Urban Region (CURE). The move is aimed at ensuring beneficiaries have easy access to employment opportunities and essential urban services.
During a review meeting with ministers and senior officials, the Chief Minister said that constructing houses in remote locations would create difficulties for residents in commuting to workplaces and accessing their means of livelihood. He stressed that affordable housing projects should be developed in well-connected residential areas to improve the quality of life for beneficiaries.
Reddy also instructed officials to identify unused land owned by various government departments for the construction of houses under the scheme. The government intends to utilise such land parcels to develop housing projects without acquiring additional private land.
According to an official statement, the Telangana government plans to construct 7,680 flats in the first phase of the programme. The housing projects will be developed across several assembly constituencies, including Rajendranagar, Maheswaram, Serilingampally, Ibrahimpatnam, Malkajgiri, Nampally, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Karwan, Bahadurpura, Amberpet, Kukatpally, Medchal, Qutbullapur, Sanatnagar, Secunderabad Cantonment, and Malakpet.
The proposed development will consist of multi-storey residential buildings. Each flat will have a built-up area of 525 sq. ft., while the cost of land will be borne entirely by the state government.
The estimated construction cost of each housing unit is ₹11 lakh. Under the scheme, the government will provide a subsidy of ₹5 lakh per house. Beneficiaries will contribute the remaining ₹6 lakh, which can be paid to the government in four instalments.
The Indiramma Housing Scheme is one of the Telangana government’s key affordable housing initiatives aimed at providing permanent homes to eligible families. By locating the projects within established residential areas, the government seeks to ensure that beneficiaries have better connectivity, access to public infrastructure, and improved opportunities for employment while supporting planned urban development in Hyderabad.
