In anticipation of the monsoon season, a collaborative re-inspection initiative spearheaded by Bardez deputy collector Varsha Parab has uncovered 49 buildings within the municipal limits of Mapusa that are deemed structurally unsafe and hazardous.
This special inspection, which was launched under the directive of the North Goa district collector, sought to evaluate the structural integrity of these buildings and to avert possible collapses or accidents during periods of heavy rainfall.
The structures identified include 42 private properties and seven government buildings. Officials from both the Mapusa Municipal Council’s building department and the public works department (PWD) carried out thorough structural assessments of these properties to determine their current stability status. In the aftermath of the inspection, authorities have implemented stringent safety measures.
The Mapusa Municipal Council is currently in the process of issuing new vacation notices to the owners and residents of the 42 compromised private buildings. For those structures that are still occupied or in active use, occupants are being instructed to vacate the premises without delay, while the owners of other vacant yet structurally weak buildings have been mandated to undertake immediate safety precautions or necessary structural repairs.
