The Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA) has completed its strategic planning for ‘Gurukul City’, a premier residential township conceived as a cornerstone of New Gorakhpur, in accordance with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s initiative to facilitate organized urban development within the city.
The GDA intends to commence the project by Diwali, with the Chief Minister scheduled to perform the inaugural ceremony. During the initial phase, a residential township spanning approximately 100 acres will be constructed, while the comprehensive project encompasses roughly 400 acres to be developed sequentially, according to officials.
As per GDA officials, Gurukul City will be situated along the Sonauli Road corridor, encompassing localities such as Maniram, Balapar, and Rahmatnagar.
The initiative has been formulated to address the escalating demand for premium residential accommodations in Gorakhpur, which has established itself as a significant hub for education, healthcare, commerce, and manufacturing in eastern Uttar Pradesh throughout the preceding decade.
Officials noted that the city’s enhanced transportation infrastructure—comprising roadways, railways, and aviation facilities—combined with the presence of academic institutions, technical colleges, and medical schools, has substantially elevated its attractiveness as a residential location for inhabitants from adjacent districts and even neighboring regions of Bihar.
Following the GDA board’s approval of the master plan, preparatory procedures for the launch are progressing. The authority is simultaneously pursuing authorization from the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) prior to the formal project announcement.
The envisioned township is positioned in proximity to Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, the second battalion of the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force, and numerous distinguished private educational institutions. GDA officials indicated that Gurukul City is being developed as a contemporary urban township incorporating resident-oriented facilities, ecologically responsible infrastructure, and a synthesis of modern advancement and cultural heritage.
