The Bihar government has sought the Centre’s approval for road infrastructure projects worth more than ₹15,000 crore to strengthen the state’s transport network and improve regional connectivity. The proposals were discussed during a meeting in New Delhi between Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on June 29.
Senior officials from both the Central and Bihar governments reviewed the progress of ongoing national highway and expressway projects. They also examined detailed project reports (DPRs) for several new highway and bridge projects awaiting approval.
Among the major proposals is the ₹3,844 crore project to widen the 89-km Arwal–Biharsharif National Highway. The upgrade is expected to improve road capacity, reduce travel time, and enhance connectivity between key districts in the state.
Another key proposal is the ₹8,672 crore Ram Janaki Path project. The 146-km highway will connect Mashrakh, Chakia, and Bhitthamod, providing a major transport corridor and supporting economic as well as religious tourism in the region.
The Bihar government has also submitted a ₹974 crore DPR for the Satighat bridge and associated road packages along the NH-333A corridor between Barbigha and Panjwara. According to officials from the state’s Road Construction Department, work on the project will begin immediately after receiving approval from the Central government.
In addition to highway development, Bihar has proposed the construction of railway overbridges at Dumraon, Bikramganj, Safiasarai, and Jehanabad. These projects aim to eliminate traffic bottlenecks at railway crossings, improve road safety, and ensure smoother movement of vehicles.
The proposed infrastructure projects are expected to enhance connectivity across Bihar, support trade and commerce, improve logistics, and generate employment during construction. Once approved, they will also strengthen links between rural and urban areas, contributing to the state’s long-term economic growth and infrastructure development.
