PMC starts sealing property of 784 tax defaulters

“To enhance the property tax collection, the teams will visit the households and commercial buildings on Sundays, as well as on the off days for the working class, and the team would facilitate the residents submitting their dues.

The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials have started sealing their properties under its recently launched campaign —‘Mission 30-day, Rs 30 crore’.

The civic body has identified 9,999 defaulters, who owe Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000 tax each to the PMC, and 784 defaulters, each having tax arrears of more than Rs 50,000. The list of properties of all such defaulters has been provided to the officials concerned.

According to municipal commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar, 75 teams have been formed for all 75 wards, divided in six circles, and each team will visit the commercial buildings, institutions and households, to collect outstanding tax during the special campaign. The drive, aims at collecting holding tax and garbage fees from residents, was launched on March 1, and it will continue till March 31. The commissioner said that apart from teams at ward-level, the officials of headquarters have also been roped in for this campaign.

“To enhance the property tax collection, the teams will visit the households and commercial buildings on Sundays, as well as on the off days for the working class, and the team would facilitate the residents submitting their dues. On Sunday, a special team left together at 7am to collect the property tax and garbage fee from the defaulters that have been identified,” the PMC official said.

All the counters of PMC will remain open on Sundays, so that the residents can pay property tax even on the holidays. This service will continue on every Sunday and even on holidays till March 31, 2024, for the convenience of the people.
