Over 15 dilapidated houses in each zone of Bhopal

According to the a BMC internal report, there are 15 to 20 buildings in each zone, deemed dilapidated. The most dilapidated buildings are in zone numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5, the report highlighted.

 In each of the 19 Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) zones, there are an estimated 15 to 20 dilapidated structures, at risk from in case of heavy downpour.

According to the a BMC internal report, there are 15 to 20 buildings in each zone, deemed dilapidated. The most dilapidated buildings are in zone numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5, the report highlighted.

Around 250 buildings have been declared dilapidated in the state capital. Structures caving in due to excessive downpour is not new, going by the records of past monsoons in Bhopal.

Going by BMC report, there are 24 buildings that are at extreme risk. A through survey of identifying dilapidated houses not been conducted since 2013. That took place after overhead water tank collapse in Sai Baba Nagar on the intervening night of 18-19 November 2012.

Two months later BMC cited 209 dilapidated buildings for demolition. The number of such structures has increased to 242, the last count carried out in 2015.
