Sam India Begins Chennai Metro Line-3’s Underground Work

Sam India Builtwell has now also officially started construction work on 45.4 km Chennai Metro Line-3 which will connnect Madhavaram Milk Colony and SIPCOT via 49 stations.

Sam India on Friday held a groundbreaking ceremony for Package UG05-RT-01 at Indira Nagar Station with officials from Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) – the original contractor – and Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL). They’ve been subcontracted all underground station works for the 116.1 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project‘s section between Adyar Depot and Taramani Link Road Ramp.

Following a puja ceremony, Sam India deployed a Schwing-XCMG trench cutter machine to start grabbing and trenching works to construct the diaphragm wall (D-wall) around Indira Nagar Station.

CMRL had awarded Package UG05-RT01’s Rs. 665.99 crore contract to RVNL in July 2023 with a 1725 day (4.7 year) deadline. They in turn subcontracted out its construction work to Sam India Builtwell for an undisclosed amount.

This package includes entire civil work at 3 stations, partial works at 1 station and one ramp leading to Line-3’s elevated section towards Sholinganallur and SIPCOT.
