Bihar is set to receive two new train services on April 24, expanding its connectivity with major cities and offering more affordable, modern travel options. According to report, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate both the Amrit Bharat Express and Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services.
Amrit Bharat: Saharsa to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mumbai This marks Bihar’s second Amrit Bharat service and the third in the nation. The non-AC train will link Saharsa to Mumbai, passing through Madhubani, Hajipur, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, and Bhusaval. It is capable of reaching speeds of up to 130 km/h and is priced competitively at approximately ₹450 for a distance of 1,000 km, catering to middle-class and economically disadvantaged travelers.
The Amrit Bharat 2.0, produced at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), utilizes advanced push-and-pull technology to enable quicker turnaround times.
This modern train is equipped with innovative features such as foldable snack tables and sealed gangways that include radium-lit flooring. Enhancements in safety and hygiene are evident with the introduction of electro-pneumatic flushing systems and automatic soap dispensers.
Additionally, the design includes fire detection systems in non-AC coaches and real-time monitoring of wheel and bearing conditions to enhance safety. A railway official praised these safety advancements, stating, “For the first time, fire detection systems have been implemented in non-AC coaches.”
Namo Bharat Rapid Rail: Jayanagar to Patna This will mark the introduction of the country’s first 16-coach Namo Bharat train, an enhancement from the existing 12-coach service currently operating between Ahmedabad and Bhuj. The new route will link Jayanagar to Patna, passing through Madhubani, Sakri, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Barauni, and Mokama. Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity at the Railway Board, mentioned, “This train will operate at a maximum speed of 110 km/h.” These new services are designed to enhance travel comfort, affordability, and regional connectivity throughout Bihar.
