The first six-lane Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur bridge spanning the Ganga River, which links Patna to Raghopur, is nearing its completion and is poised to significantly enhance connectivity within the state.
The section from Kacchi Dargah to Raghopur has been finished, and construction on the remaining segment from Raghopur to Bidupur is advancing rapidly. Constructed by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL), the Kacchi Dargah to Raghopur segment of this six-lane bridge is anticipated to be operational by next month.
Officials have indicated that it will be the longest extra-dosed cable bridge in the country. On Sunday, Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin stated, “The river overbridge from Patna to Raghopur is nearly complete. Work on the remaining section from Raghopur to Bidupur is progressing swiftly. A meeting will be convened with officials to assess the project’s progress, after which we will determine the inauguration date for the Kacchi Dargah to Raghopur stretch.”
Nabin further indicated that the project’s completion was initially planned for July of this year; however, it now seems likely to be finished by the end of the year. He attributed the delay in construction to flooding that occurred last year.
In addition, a state-of-the-art bridge museum is being established, which will be the third of its kind in the world and the first in Asia outside of China and Japan. The museum will cover approximately 3,500 square meters, with a building area of 2,000 square meters. It will feature a projector-laser illusion show that illustrates the construction process of the extra-dosed cable bridge, as noted by the minister. Once completed, the six-lane bridge will connect the northern and southern regions of the state via roadway.
This infrastructure will serve as a vital link between NH-31 and NH-322, as confirmed by an official from BSRDCL. The Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur six-lane bridge over the Ganga River will connect Kacchi Dargah in Patna with Bidupur in the Hajipur area of Vaishali district. The bridge will begin at the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur four-lane on NH-30 (Sabalpur) in Patna and will end between Chak Sikandar and Ghazipur Chowk on NH-103, Samastipur. The entire project spans 19.76 km, with the bridge itself measuring 9.76 km and the approach path extending 10 km, according to the BSRDCL official.
The total expenditure for the construction of this six-lane greenfield bridge amounts to ₹4,988 crore. The bridge is designed with cable support, featuring spans of 150 meters between piers that are held up by cables. It incorporates 15.2 mm cables sourced from South Korea. Funded by the Asian Development Bank, this project is set to be the longest extra-dosed cable bridge in India.
