On Friday, Patel Engineering announced that it has obtained a ₹230 crore project from Dorjlung Hydro Power Ltd, based in Bhutan. The first package of the project encompasses the pre-construction activities for the 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project in Bhutan, as stated by Patel Engineering in a filing to the exchange.
Dorjlung Hydro Power Limited (DHPL) is a collaborative venture between Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) of Bhutan and Tata Power Company Limited. DHPL has awarded the Letter of Award to Patel Engineering Ltd for Package I.
The Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project represents a significant milestone in Bhutan’s energy sector and is the largest hydro project in Bhutan under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, aimed at fully supporting the country’s domestic energy needs while facilitating the export of surplus clean energy to India, thus enhancing regional energy security, according to the company.
Kavita Shirvaikar, the Managing Director, remarked: “Hydropower is fundamental to Bhutan’s energy future, and we view this as a chance not only to provide top-tier engineering solutions but also to fortify our long-term partnership with Bhutan in the renewable energy domain.” Patel Engineering is actively seeking additional opportunities in hydropower development within Bhutan and other neighboring nations, reaffirming its dedication to sustainable growth and regional cooperation.
