It is time for people in Upper Assam and the north bank of the Brahmaputra to get ready to pay toll for the use of the national highways at two points.The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a call for bids to engage user fee collection agencies at the Rangamati Fee Plaza on NH 37 (Old) near Dergaon and the Ratowa Fee Plaza on NH 15 close to the Jinjia police station in the Biswanath district, situated on the north bank of the Brahmaputra river.
The Rangamati Fee Plaza is being established along the NH 37 (Old) route from Numaligarh to Jorhat, near the town of Dergaon in the Golaghat district. NHAI has now solicited bids for the engagement of a fee collection agency for a duration of three months or until a new agency is appointed by NHAI, whichever occurs first.
The fee structure set for 2025-26 at the Rangamati Fee Plaza for cars, jeeps, vans, or light motor vehicles is Rs 80 for a one-way journey and Rs 120 for vehicles returning within the same day; for light commercial vehicles, light goods vehicles, or minibuses, the fee is Rs 130 for a one-way trip and Rs 190 for vehicles returning within a day; for buses and trucks (up to two axles), the charge is Rs 270 for a one-way trip and Rs 400 for vehicles returning within a day.
Additionally, there is an option for monthly passes. The Ratowa Fee Plaza is situated near the Jinjia police station in the Biswanath district, along the route from Dolabari to Jamuguri and from Jamuguri to Gohpur on NH 15.
The fee structure for the year 2025-26 for cars, jeeps, vans, or light motor vehicles is Rs 200 for a one-way trip and Rs 305 for vehicles returning within a day; for light commercial vehicles, light goods vehicles, or minibuses, the fee is Rs 325 for a one-way journey and Rs 490 for vehicles returning within the same day; for buses and trucks (up to two axles), the charge is Rs 685 for a one-way trip and Rs 1,025 for vehicles returning within a day. There is also a provision for monthly passes. At present, there are nine toll plazas operational on national highways in Assam.
