MCG has sealed a multi-storey residential building in Jharsa on Thursday due to unpaid property tax amounting to Rs 67 lakh. Officials indicated that further actions against significant defaulters are planned as part of the ongoing recovery initiative.
This action was taken under the direction of zonal taxation officer Rajesh Yadav, who stated that the property owner had been requested to pay the tax through multiple notices. However, despite these repeated notifications, the payment was not made, leading to MCG sealing the property.
MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya remarked, “Our municipal corporation is actively pursuing actions against tax defaulters. To enhance the revenue of the municipal corporation and improve civic amenities, it is the duty of every property owner to pay their taxes punctually.
Those who neglect to pay despite numerous notices will encounter sealing, attachment, and recovery measures. I urge all property owners to settle their taxes promptly and assist in creating a clean, robust, and self-sufficient city.” During a virtual meeting led by Vikas Gupta, commissioner and secretary of the Urban Local Bodies department, officials reported that the civic body has successfully collected property tax exceeding Rs 261 crore to date.
Instructions were also given to tax branch officials to ensure that no leniency is shown in the tax collection process. While addressing the meeting, Gupta emphasized that stringent actions are being enforced against tax defaulters.
To date, 17 properties have been sealed for owing tax arrears amounting to crores. He mentioned that the sealing campaign will be intensified in the upcoming days to guarantee tax collection from all defaulting property owners.
