Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway nears completion, inauguration likely by December

The Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway, a 63-kilometer, six-lane access-controlled corridor (which can be expanded to eight lanes), is approaching its completion and is anticipated to shorten the travel time between the two cities to merely one hour.

Designated as National Expressway 6, this project runs parallel to NH 27, linking significant areas such as Bani, Kantha, and Amarsas, and concludes near Azad Marg in Kanpur. According to officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), only minor finishing touches are pending, which are expected to be finalized by early December.

A sum exceeding Rs 800 crore has been allocated for land acquisition across 42 villages. Additionally, the expressway intersects with the Ganga Expressway in Unnao, thereby enhancing regional connectivity.

The infrastructure comprises five toll plazas, three rest areas equipped with medical facilities, and six entry/exit ramps. While the majority of the sections are completed, the 18-kilometer elevated stretch in Lucknow remains under construction, with full completion anticipated by 30 November 2025, followed by an official inauguration.
