The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is set to prepare a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based Master Plan 2051 for the proposed Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (UPSCR), marking a major step toward integrated regional planning and long-term urban development.
The GIS-based digital master plan will cover nearly 26,000 sq km and bring together land use, water bodies, forests, green belts, transportation networks, and proposed development projects on a single digital platform. The initiative aims to support data-driven planning, efficient monitoring, and coordinated infrastructure development across the region.
The proposed UPSCR comprises six districts—Lucknow, Barabanki, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, and Rae Bareli. The regional master plan will establish a long-term framework for balanced growth by defining land-use patterns, settlement distribution, transport infrastructure, and economic development priorities.
According to officials, the plan will focus on multiple sectors, including physical infrastructure, environmental conservation, governance, social infrastructure, and implementation strategies. It will also identify future development corridors and investment opportunities across the region.
Key transport proposals under consideration include the development of new highways, regional rail connectivity, an orbital rail corridor, expansion of the Lucknow Metro network, freight corridors, logistics parks, and improved last-mile connectivity to rural areas. These initiatives are expected to strengthen regional mobility while supporting industrial and commercial growth.
The authority is also evaluating several economic development projects for inclusion in the regional plan. These include a proposed Transport Nagar, industrial clusters, food parks, logistics hubs, tourism infrastructure, and corridor-based development along the Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway. Such projects are intended to improve connectivity, encourage investments, and generate employment opportunities across the state capital region.
LDA Vice-Chairperson Prathamesh Kumar stated that the GIS-based Master Plan 2051 will serve as a comprehensive roadmap for planned and balanced regional development. By integrating spatial data with infrastructure planning, the authority aims to ensure coordinated growth while preserving environmental resources and improving the quality of urban and rural infrastructure.
The preparation of the GIS-based Master Plan reflects Uttar Pradesh’s growing emphasis on technology-driven urban planning. Once implemented, the plan is expected to facilitate informed decision-making, optimize land utilization, and support sustainable development across the six districts, positioning the State Capital Region for future economic expansion and improved regional connectivity.
