The Karnataka Cabinet has made the decision to initiate a ₹17,780-crore tunnel road project connecting Hebbal to Silk Board in Bengaluru, utilizing the BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) model through the issuance of global tenders.
On Thursday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presided over a Cabinet meeting where the project was approved, which will be managed by a private firm for a duration of 30 years. This will be a tolled tunnel. The Chief Minister has been empowered to issue global tenders for the project. According to Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil, all project-related work is expected to be completed within 38 months.
Additionally, the Cabinet has approved the establishment of a quantum research park at IISc, Bengaluru, in partnership with the Foundation for Science Innovation & Development (FSID), with a budget of ₹48 crore. Furthermore, the Cabinet has sanctioned a ₹1,386-crore initiative to enhance all government industrial training institutes across Karnataka. This development will be supported by the Asian Development Fund amounting to ₹970 crore, with the State government contributing ₹416 crore, and the project is projected to be finalized within five years.
Lastly, an allocation of ₹181.77 crore has been approved for the State-operated Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences located in Bengaluru, Kalaburagi, Hubballi, and Mysuru, specifically for the acquisition of medical equipment.
