In just two weeks since the launch of the intra-district property registration service on May 1, officials reported that 1,081 registrations have been completed statewide. This initiative, introduced by the property registration department, enables individuals to register their properties at any sub-registrar office within a district, irrespective of the property’s actual location. This change has notably decreased the necessity for long-distance travel and has been positively received by both property owners and buyers.
For instance, 79-year-old Manmath Shivrudarappa Mahajan from Latur, who recently sold his property in Mauje Walandi village in Deoni taluka, found the process to be quite convenient, stating, ‘I was able to register at the Latur city sub-registrar office without needing to travel to my village.’ Similarly, Seema Naik, who owned property in Baramati, completed her sale deed at a sub-registrar office in Pune city, commenting, ‘This system will facilitate the process for both the public and officials.’ Deputy Inspector General (IT) Abhay Mohite noted that the process has not encountered any technical issues thus far, remarking, ‘Achieving over 1,000 registrations in two weeks is an encouraging indicator.
As awareness increases, it is likely that more individuals will take advantage of this convenient option.’ Initially tested in Mumbai city and suburban registration offices, this initiative has now been expanded to all districts, including Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur. Officials are optimistic that this measure will enhance the user-friendliness of the registration process and alleviate the burden on congested urban offices.
An official stated that the system has simplified access to services for individuals in both rural and urban regions, making them more readily available near their residences or workplaces. The state government is currently developing the next phase, which involves inter-district property registration. This feature will enable individuals to register properties located in one district at a sub-registrar office in a different district. A senior official mentioned that they are working on resolving several technical issues and anticipate launching this feature in the upcoming months.
Additionally, the state inspector general of the registration office has announced that the revised leave and licence 2.0 software will be implemented throughout Maharashtra, excluding Mumbai, in mid-June. Although the launch was originally planned for April, it was postponed due to concerns raised by stakeholders regarding Aadhaar-based verification, inconsistencies in name formatting, and the lack of authorized service providers. Officials indicated that they would also consider feedback from associations representing property owners, tenants, and legal professionals prior to the rollout.
