by Constro Facilitator

The Haryana government has approved the purchase of 500 new buses for Haryana Roadways as part of a Rs 424.69 crore package covering transport and infrastructure projects across the state. The approval was granted by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during meetings of the High Powered Purchase Committee (HPPC) and the High Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC) held at Haryana Niwas in Chandigarh.

The approved package comprises nine proposals aimed at strengthening public transport operations, improving road infrastructure and supporting the operational requirements of Haryana Roadways.

The major approval involves the procurement of 500 fully built, non-air-conditioned diesel buses conforming to Bharat Stage-VI (BS-VI) emission standards. The addition of these buses is expected to increase the operational capacity of the state transport undertaking and improve the availability of public bus services.

Procurement of Buses and Supporting Equipment

Alongside the new buses, the state government has approved the procurement of 24 diesel-engine trucks for Haryana Roadways. The purchase is intended to meet operational requirements across its depots and sub-depots.

The government has also cleared the procurement of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), which is used in selective catalytic reduction systems to control nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel vehicles. The quantity will be determined according to the requirements of individual depots and sub-depots for the coming year.

The procurement of additional buses and supporting vehicles forms part of the state’s efforts to strengthen transport operations and maintain the infrastructure required for public bus services.

Rs 11.96 Crore Savings Through Negotiations

The approval process also resulted in financial savings for the state government. According to the announcement, negotiations with bidders helped reduce the overall procurement cost by approximately Rs 11.96 crore.

The savings were achieved during discussions on the proposals placed before the purchase committees. The negotiated rates are expected to help the government manage expenditure while proceeding with the approved transport and infrastructure projects.

Three Traffic Infrastructure Projects Approved in Gurugram

Apart from the Haryana Roadways procurement, the government has approved three traffic infrastructure projects in Gurugram to improve road connectivity and manage traffic movement at important locations.

The proposed works include the construction of flyovers at key intersections and an underpass near the Millennium City Centre Metro Station.

These projects are intended to address traffic congestion at busy junctions and improve connectivity for commuters using the city’s road network and metro services.

Gurugram has witnessed substantial urban and commercial development, resulting in increased movement of private vehicles, public transport and commercial traffic. The proposed flyovers and underpass are expected to support smoother traffic movement and improve access to important urban locations.

Focus on Public Transport and Urban Connectivity

The Rs 424.69 crore package brings together investments in public transport procurement and urban traffic infrastructure. The purchase of 500 BS-VI buses will add to Haryana Roadways’ fleet capacity, while the supporting trucks and Diesel Exhaust Fluid procurement will address operational requirements.

At the same time, the three approved projects in Gurugram indicate a focus on improving road infrastructure in areas experiencing increasing traffic demand.

The decisions reflect the Haryana government’s approach towards strengthening public transport facilities and addressing urban mobility requirements through investments in buses, road infrastructure and traffic management projects.
