Gainwell CAT, Caterpillar’s authorised dealer partner for North and East India, marked Day 1 of bauma CONEXPO India 2026 with the launch of the CAT® 355 Excavator at its booth (O.E20) at the India Expo Centre, Greater Noida. The launch anchors a broader push by Gainwell CAT this year toward machine uptime, lifecycle value and a services-led ownership experience for its customers.
Built for severe-duty applications, the CAT® 355 Excavator is engineered for quarry and mining operations where machines are pushed hardest, and downtime is costliest. Its reinforced boom and stick, wide variable gauge undercarriage and heavy counterweight allow it to run large attachments, including hammers up to 210 mm (8″), without compromising stability or cycle times. The excavator’s C13 engine paired with an electrohydraulic system and three selectable power modes, Power, Smart and Eco, lets operators match output to the material at hand, with Smart mode automatically balancing engine and hydraulic power to cut fuel consumption during lighter digging. The machine is rated to operate at altitudes up to 4,500 m and in ambient temperatures as high as 52°C, addressing a gap in the market where excavators are often derated or restricted in India’s harsher operating terrains, from high-altitude sites to peak-summer mining belts. A high-efficiency hydraulic fan with reverse-flow capability keeps cores clear of debris, and synchronised 1,000-hour filter service intervals are designed to reduce maintenance downtime, reinforcing Gainwell CAT’s uptime-first positioning for the machine’s full working life.

Alongside the launch, Gainwell CAT used bauma CONEXPO India 2026 to spotlight the direction of its business for the year ahead. Machine Rebuild is a major focus area in 2026, extending the working life of customers’ existing Cat fleets rather than requiring replacement, while Customer Value Agreements (CVAs) continue to anchor Gainwell CAT’s services commitment, bundling parts, maintenance and support into predictable, planned coverage.
That commitment is backed by one of the widest service footprints in the industry, stretching from the highest terrain in Leh to mining operations as deep as Rajpura Dariba in Rajasthan. It is a footprint that mirrors the 355’s own operating range, rated to run at altitudes up to 4,500 m and in ambient temperatures as high as 52°C, so the machine performs to spec wherever in that network it is deployed. Gainwell CAT has also been investing in digital tools that reshape how customers monitor and manage their equipment, including CAT VisionLink for fleet and machine health monitoring, the Cat Central e-commerce platform for parts ordering, and Gainwell Vanijya.
Commenting on the day, Sunil Kumar Chaturvedi, Chairman & Managing Director, Gainwell Commosales, said, “India’s infrastructure ambitions are only getting bigger, and that changes what customers expect from an equipment partner. It is no longer just about selling a machine. It is about making sure that machine keeps working through its entire life, wherever in North or East India it happens to be operating. That is the business we have built, and bauma is a good moment to show how much further we intend to take it.”
Manav Kohli, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Gainwell Commosales, added, “The CAT® 355 Excavator delivers higher production and loading capacity per hour that is needed by our customers for mining and large construction projects, with higher fuel efficiency and reliability that such projects demand. A good machine is one part of the value. We back the high productivity of CAT® 355 with cost-effective CAT® Customer Value Agreements that ensure high availability and low cost per tonne assurance. This is what actually determines the return our customers see on their investment.”
The numbers bear that out: the 355 delivers up to 296 kN of bucket digging force and is built around an operating weight of up to 53,000 kg, giving it the muscle to hold its own in quarry and mining cycles where every extra pass eats into a customer’s margin.
Further, Akanksha Chaturvedi, Executive Director and Chief Growth Officer, Gainwell Commosales, added, “At the heart of all we do is our value of Customer centricity. We take immense pride in helping solve our customers toughest problems, whether on ground with our offerings, or virtually, making sure we stay connected with them through every stage of their journey. Our focus is on making ownership simpler, transparent and more responsive. Whether it is helping customers monitor machine health through VisionLink™, order parts through Cat® Central, or engage with us more seamlessly through Gainwell Vanijya, we are using digital platforms to make every interaction more efficient. Ultimately, it is about making ownership simpler and helping customers get the most from their equipment.”
The CAT® 355 Excavator launch and the wider services push reflect Gainwell CAT’s broader positioning as Caterpillar’s long-term dealer partner across construction, mining and power systems in the region, with a network built to serve customers from Nepal and Bhutan through to the mining belts of eastern India.
