Manesar civic body collects Rs 18 crore property tax

The MCM officials said that this is the highest tax collection since the civic body was constituted around three years ago as only those requiring a no-dues certificate were paying property tax.

The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has collected property tax amounting to Rs 18 crore since April 1 this year. The corporation has also issued 30,000 notices to defaulting property owners across Manesar to submit their dues.

The civic body has outsourced the distribution of bills to a private firm. The MCM officials said that this is the highest tax collection since the civic body was constituted around three years ago as only those requiring a no-dues certificate were paying property tax.

“Earlier, the tax wasn’t being collected. We hired an agency for this and also deployed manpower for distribution of property tax bills,” MCM commissioner Sahil Gupta said. According to officials, the bills are being distributed to increase tax collection revenue.

The funds will be utilised for development works in new sectors, they said. The civic body has also issued notices to 100 defaulters with outstanding dues amounting to Rs 10 crore.

“We have sent notices to more than 30,000 residents with assessment of their property tax dues. If there are any discrepancies in the data mentioned in the bill, the residents can submit those for corrections. We have also started getting applications for corrections,” said Devender Kumar, the zonal taxation officer.
