KMC collects Rs 37 crore property tax

Also, bwteen April 1 and September 6, the civic body has managed to collect around Rs 37 crore towards property tax — highest ever in the first six months of a financial year. The city has around 1.51 registered properties with the KMC.

The property tax concession scheme of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has proved to a success as around 68,000 people have availed of the benefit.

Also, bwteen April 1 and September 6, the civic body has managed to collect around Rs 37 crore towards property tax — highest ever in the first six months of a financial year. The city has around 1.51 registered properties with the KMC.

Vijay Vankudre, property tax superintendent, said, “Around 45% of the tax payers have paid their annual tax amount and availed of the concession ranging between 4% and 6%. Those who pay their property tax dues between October and December will get a 2% rebate. During every financial year around 81,000 property owners avail the concession scheme till December 31. This time we are expecting to surpass this number.”

The KMC is also trying to make citizens aware about the property tax concession scheme. The civic body is also resorting to issuing notices to big defaulters and attaching the properties of repeated defaulters.

“Last financial year, we had collected around Rs 43 crore towards property tax. This time most of it has been collected within the first six months of the current fiscal. We have set a property tax collection target of Rs 80 crore for 2022-23,” he said .
