Pay property tax by June 30 and get 10% rebate- NMC

The civic body has also announced 10% and 5% rebate on property tax for those paying up before June 30 and December 31, respectively.

After nearly 40-day delay, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday started generation and distribution of property tax invoices for the 2022-23 financial year.

The civic body has also announced 10% and 5% rebate on property tax for those paying up before June 30 and December 31, respectively. Deputy municipal commissioner (property tax) Milind Meshram said the rebate will be given on the entire property tax component, excluding education and employment guarantee cess of the state government.

The NMC has also been providing 5% to 10% discount on four ecological schemes: rooftop solar system, rainwater harvesting, decompost of waste and recycle and reuse of wastewater, said Meshram.

“If a property owner implements any one of the above four schemes, he or she will get 5% discount in general tax, and implementation of more than one scheme would fetch an additional 10% rebate,” said Meshram.

The NMC has started distributing the tax invoices from Ajni ward, said Meshram. “As per plan, the NMC intends to distribute around 5 lakh tax invoices by May 26. Distribution of all tax invoices will be completed by the first week of June,” claimed the deputy commissioner.

The delay in generating and distributing property tax demands occurred after the NMC scrapped the old system, which was replaced with geo-fencing system.

The new system shows real-time property tax recovery of all 10 zones. For fully paid taxes, the geo-fencing system changes the colour of the properties to green, while it displays saffron colour for partial tax payment. The properties with unpaid taxes will be marked with red colour.

According to data obtained from NMC’s tax department, in 2021-22, as many 79,881 property owners had availed 10% rebate, which comes to around Rs Rs 2.56 crore, and paid their total current tax dues of Rs Rs 32.09 crore.

Similarly, 1.54 lakh property owners had availed 5% rebate in property tax. The NMC had collected Rs Rs 54.08 crore and provided Rs Rs 1.97 crore as rebate, the data revealed.
