Bengaluru Namma Metro project deadline extended to 2025

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is far from implementing a war room model to accelerate the Namma metro project

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is far from implementing a war room model to accelerate the Namma metro project after two years. According to the plan, the Bengaluru metro will probably have a “war room”  with the authorities of  different departments to accelerate the metro project..

BMRCL has planned to ensure the timeliness of projects so as not to delay them.. It includes 72 km long phase 2 work which was sanctioned in 2014 which was supposed to be completed by 2017.

The Karnataka government wanted to replicate the Maharashtra model to accelerate the work of Metro to avoid hurdles and other roadblocks so that ongoing projects do not get delayed.

According to a senior official in the Urban Development Department, BMRCL has not got approval for the removal of any tree after June 2020.Bengaluru Metro is yet to resolve land acquisition issues with Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) promoters in Electronic City.

As per a report, Namma Metro’s applications to the forest department to remove trees is pending for a long time on places like UM Kaval depot, Benniganahalli Lake bund, Kadugodi and Whitefield stations, Kadugodi and Kothanur depots.

According to reports, the war room monitors mega projects like the metro rail project and the coastal road project.

Earlier in September 2019, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan had tweeted, “A special war room-like model to alleviate the roadblocks in implementing any govt project is the need of the hour.

Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis set up the ‘CM’s war room’ housed in the Mantralaya building with a team of young professionals to expedite pending projects.

“A PIL filed by some activists against tree felling is pending in the high court since 2018,” a senior urban development department official told TOI. He also noted that a fresh complaint has been filed with European Investment Bank (EIB) on tree removal.
