In response to a series of recent fire incidents in Noida and Delhi, the Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) has urged authorities to undertake extensive fire safety audits across the city. The federation has written to the Greater Noida (GB Nagar) Police Commissioner, seeking immediate measures to strengthen fire safety compliance in hotels, guest houses, paying guest (PG) accommodations, and high-rise residential and commercial buildings.
The demand comes amid growing concerns over fire preparedness in rapidly urbanizing urban centers, where increasing population density and vertical development have heightened safety risks. FONRWA believes that regular inspections and stricter enforcement of fire safety regulations are essential to prevent potential disasters and protect residents.
According to the federation, authorities should conduct a comprehensive review of hotels, guest houses, and PG accommodations to ensure that all establishments comply with prescribed fire safety norms. It has also requested verification of Fire No Objection Certificates (Fire NOCs) in high-rise buildings and called for action against illegal constructions, unauthorized building modifications, misuse of basements, and deviations from approved building plans.
Yogendra Sharma, president of FONRWA, emphasized that recent fire tragedies should serve as a wake-up call for both authorities and citizens. He noted that non-compliance with fire safety standards, inadequate emergency exits, and poorly maintained firefighting systems continue to pose significant risks in residential and commercial properties.
As Noida continues to expand as a major residential and business hub, the federation believes that fire safety infrastructure must evolve alongside urban growth. While many establishments operate in accordance with regulations, concerns persist regarding unauthorized accommodations and buildings lacking essential safety features.
The federation has recommended the mandatory installation and routine maintenance of fire alarms, smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, and other firefighting equipment across all multi-storey buildings. In addition, it has advocated for regular testing of evacuation procedures to ensure occupants are prepared to respond effectively during emergencies.
K K Jain, secretary general of the federation, called for stronger enforcement mechanisms and stricter penalties for establishments operating without mandatory approvals. He also stressed the importance of periodic fire safety training for building operators, staff members, and maintenance teams.
FONRWA has further proposed regular mock drills and inspections of electrical systems, wiring networks, and equipment installations, which are often identified as major causes of fire outbreaks. The federation believes that proactive monitoring, combined with public awareness and strict compliance checks, can significantly reduce the likelihood of fire-related incidents.
With Noida witnessing continued growth in high-rise developments, hotels, and rental accommodations, stakeholders increasingly recognize the need for a robust fire safety framework. FONRWA’s recommendations highlight the importance of preventive action, regular audits, and accountability to ensure the safety of residents, workers, and visitors across the city.
