The Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated the redevelopment of the 55-km Mahatma Gandhi Road corridor in Delhi, which is among the most heavily trafficked routes in the city, with the aim of alleviating congestion and modernizing the transport infrastructure.
AECOM India has been assigned the responsibility of creating a detailed project report (DPR) for this transformation, which will encompass six phases extending from Azadpur and ISBT to the DND Flyover, Moti Bagh, and Rajouri Garden. This project will feature elevated sections, redesigned intersections, and improved connectivity with metro and public transport systems.
PWD Minister Parvesh Verma stated that the goal of this initiative is to render Delhi’s primary corridor “smarter, safer, and faster.” The DPR, which is expected to be finalized within 24 weeks, will incorporate traffic, environmental, and social evaluations, as well as 3D models and phased implementation strategies.
The design prioritizes sustainability by including pedestrian and cycling paths, eco-friendly materials, and intelligent lighting. Upon completion, it is anticipated to decrease emissions and enhance mobility throughout the city.
