Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar distributed sanction letters to 31 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0 at a programme held at the Karnal Municipal Corporation, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to providing permanent housing to every eligible urban poor family.

Addressing the gathering, Khattar said that home ownership represents dignity, security, and a better future for families. He emphasized that the government is implementing welfare schemes with the objective of ensuring that the benefits reach every eligible beneficiary through a transparent and accountable process.

The minister highlighted that PMAY-U 2.0, launched on September 1, 2024, aims to provide permanent houses to economically weaker sections and other eligible urban families across the country. The scheme is being jointly implemented by the Central Government and the Haryana Government to improve the living standards of poor households through access to affordable housing.

Khattar stated that the beneficiary selection process has been made completely online and transparent to ensure that financial assistance reaches only deserving applicants. He also urged beneficiaries to complete construction of their homes within the prescribed timeline and make effective use of the financial support provided under the scheme.

According to government officials, applications of 2,174 beneficiaries across Haryana have been approved during the first phase of PMAY-U 2.0. Among these, 509 beneficiaries belong to urban areas of Karnal district, while 80 beneficiaries fall under the jurisdiction of the Karnal Municipal Corporation.

The approvals mark an important step in expanding affordable housing coverage in the state and ensuring that eligible families gain access to secure and permanent homes. The implementation of PMAY-U 2.0 is expected to contribute to improved urban living conditions while supporting the government’s broader objective of inclusive urban development.

The programme was attended by several public representatives and senior officials, including Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand, Nilokheri MLA Bhagwan Dass Kabirpanthi, Karnal Mayor Renu Bala Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Anand Kumar Sharma, Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya, Municipal Commissioner Saloni Sharma, councillors, and officials from various departments.
